On Thursday, March 21st, the Shelter Island Lions Club proudly honored Lions Alan and Janice Krauss for their many years of dedicated service to the Club and the Shelter Island community.   They were given a proclamation from the Town of Shelter Island by Town Supervisor James Dougherty and a Certificate of Appreciation plaque from Club President Dr. Frank Adipietro.  The photo below shows Lions Janice and Alan receiving the plaque from Pres. At the January 17th dinner meeting, Alex Olinkiewicz provided us a very interesting presentation on his life with Asperger's, his YouTube video, and his recently published book, In My Mind, A Journey Through My Life With Asperger's/Autism, which he authored with Dr. Richard O'Connell.  Shown below is a photo of Alex (center) with his dad, James (right), and Club President Dr. Frank Adipietro.

At the home game of the Shelter Island Bucks vs. the Southampton Breakers on Tuesday, August 24, 2012, young Perlman Music Program students played the Star Spangled Banner and Maestro Itzhak Perlman threw out the first pitch. Bucks Manager Cori Cass later (carefully) shook Maestro Perlman's hand.   Photos from the event are shown below.  [Following a short rain delay, the Bucks won the game 7-1, putting them in first place in the league, with the North Fork Ospreys 1/2 game behind.  League standings may be viewed by clicking here.]

Below is a photo of La Maison Blanche owner Alistair MacLean (on the right) presenting a $400 check to Shelter Island Lions Club President, Dr. Frank Adipietro on July 22nd.  La Maison Blanche held a pétanque tournament with the proceeds to benefit the Shelter Island Lions' charitable activities.   [Trivia question: What's the difference between pétanque and bocce?  Send your answers to Webmaster@ShelterIslandLions.org.]

The SI Lions Club presented a check to Cori Cass (Bucks Manager) as a donation to the Shelter Island Bucks baseball team.  The Bucks are a newly formed team in the Hamptons Division of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.  From left to right in the photo below are Lion Frank Vecchio, Cori Cass, Lions President James Read, and Lion Ken Pysher.   On the Bucks' opening day, Sunday, June 3rd, the Lions Club sold hot dogs, soda, chips and popcorn at Fiske field to raise just under $800 dollars for the Bucks.  Click here to view the Bucks' 2012 schedule.
